Making Money through your Talents

Right now, more than ever, we are living in an age where it is possible for everyone to have a job that they love. To have sources of income through activities they love doing. I believe that everyone should be in a position to live their dream life, however unfortunately many people seem to be stuck in a job that they do not love. The word ‘love’ is important. It is not ok to have a job that you can tolerate.

To take an analogy with relationships. It is not OK to commit to spend the rest of your life with someone that you can live with. It is much better to commit to a person that you can’t live without.

Work is meant to be something through which we can express our talents. It should be something that allows us to make the change in the world that we want to see, and should be something that we are willing to do for free. The amount of money that we make from our work should be directly proportional to how well we do our job. Most people see it as the other way round – they see work as something that takes up 40 hours (or more) of their time every week, so that when they are not at work they are free to do what they want, and every month receive a salary that is just enough to get by. Many people think that it is ok to postpone what they really want to be doing because ‘now is not the right time, maybe in 2 years’. I think that that is a very limiting perspective of life. I do not agree with the concept that ‘you only live once’. I think that you only die once, and that you live every day. So no one can afford to keep on postponing doing what they love until they find the right opportunity.

Right now, the concept of having full freedom on how you want to live your life may seem something so distant that you might think that it is not something that you can achieve. Believe me, you can. I never thought that I would be in a position that would allow me to leave everything behind and travel with my fiancée just 9 months before getting married. Most people in my position – soon to be 30 years old, and getting married are worried about home-loans, and trying to find ways in which they can fund their wedding, which is a pity. This kind of stress causes a lot of tension in relationships both before and after marriage.

Having said that, a lot people are understanding this basic concept – that you can be in control of your own life, and many people are starting their own business. Many more people are doing in side hustle - working on their own business part-time until they feel secure to put on a smile from one ear to another, go to their boss and tell them that they are going to quit.

All this is great news, however unfortunately many people do not manage to make it happen. The rate of business that fail within the first year is astronomical and the real pity is that most people tend to renounce their interest in starting their own business after their first failure.

I cannot say that I am Richard Branson, I’ve only started one business (so far, I’m still 29), but I can proudly say that it was a very successful one. I wouldn’t say that I was triumphant after my first attempt. I tried many different options. I provided some services to the construction industry, I tried offering outsourced sales services, then in outsourced delivery service, until I stumbled upon the idea of consultancy which immediately proved to be the most successful for 3 reasons. The first, possibly the most important is that I was passionate about the subject. I believe in continual improvement, both on a personal level, and on an organizational level. I constantly spoke about the fact that any entity (business or person) that does not improve will eventually die. And this idea drove me to keep on persisting when I faced rejection. The second reason is that people were actually interested in what we had to offer. There was the demand and people were genuinely interested in the service that we offered. The third reason is that the business model (price – cost = profit) was attractive for me to start that business.

So, when going out to start making money through your own talents (not through a job that you don’t love), do not move on with the first idea of a business that pops into your mind. Explore. And certainly do not wait until you have the ‘brilliant idea’ to start a business. It doesn’t work like that, at least that’s not what I did. Persistence is possibly the most important virtue that you will need to succeed in business. You need to constantly ‘battle’ with your own mind, and with others that you will make it. Therefore you need to hard-headed, in the sense that when you race rejection, you do not take it too personally. You just need to move on someone else, but at the same time ready to receive feedback. You need to know when to change your course to something that could lead to the success that you are after.

All this might sound like hard work. And it is. You need time, loads of it. Probably not knowing what to do with that time, and you might spend countless hours talking to a wall, or to a computer screen, but at least you are allowing yourself (more accurately, your mind) to get the inspiration, and to take action on that inspiration.

One of the most important factors in being successful is to surround yourself with like-minded people who are in the same situation. This will make you feel that you are not alone, and through interacting with these people you might get some sort of inspiration, or advise that you needed. I have written a book about how to make money from your passions. When buying this book, I will also give you my time to bounce off some ideas with me on how to get started, I would be very glad to talk, either through e-mail, or through Skype.

Whatever your passions might be, you deserve to enjoy making money from your passion. So no matter what your talent is I can help you make money from them.

Send an email on lukedesira@gmail.com to get in touch with me, personally. I am here to help you take the first step, and then the second, and then the third, until you are able to keep on walking, and eventually running on your own. If no one believes in you, or worse, if you do not even believe in yourself, I do not care. I believe in you, because I know that everyone was meant to be doing something important to this world. Everyone was sent to planet Earth with a mission, let me help you find out what’s yours, so that you too can start taking action to arrive to a point where you have enough money (through doing what you love) to live your dream life.

If you want to read further about the concepts that are being passed in this blog, you'd be pleased to know that I have created an e-book, 'Life as it's'meant to be'. Unlike other e-books, I’m offering my time and expertise to guide you to success. It would be my honour to serve you. There’s nothing to lose, but possibly, there is an entire life-time of success to gain.
