Paragliding in Pokhara, Nepal

The snow capped mountains shined as the sun’s rays touched. The lake reflected the beautiful green surroundings. Zen! That’s the least feeling I expected when I found myself hanging at 1400m above sea level, surrounded by spectacular views of the Himalayas, with the beautiful the Phewa Lake lying beneath. I had finally checked paragliding of my bucket list!

'Zen! That’s the least feeling I expected'

Pokhara, in Nepal, is a famous destination known as the base from which trekking in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas starts. But trekking is not the only best thing to do in Pokhara. Paragliding over this region is one of the top things to do in Pokhara.

The adventure starts at Pokhara in which a jeep drives you 45 minutes up an off road, up a mountain. As you start driving up, the views start showing off.

Paragliding gives you bird eye view of the Himalayas and of the city and lake beneath. You get to see eagles up close and personal as well as see the beautiful atmosphere of the many colourful parachutes in the sky, all aiming for the same thing: fun, adventure, adrenaline, an eye sore epic scenery and a feeling of relaxation.

That’s right , relaxation! I never thought I would feel so relaxed, so in the present as I felt while I was paragliding. The chilly feeling of the wind brushing against your skin, the sound of nothing but the wind, just serenity in the most spectacular views.

On the other hand, paragliding is fun and has its adrenaline rushes. The take off- oooo what a feeling. It’s just the wind, you and your pilot making a run for it off a 1400m mountain, with nothing but a parachute attached to a couple of lines on each side and a harness. But once you take off and get used to flying like a bird, it’s just peace.

Then before the actual landing comes the fun and adrenaline part where if you like, the pilot makes acrobatics. I suggest you go for it, it’s just spinning in circles at high speeds, which gives you a free fall feeling of adrenaline rush. It’s like being on a roller coaster without seeing the tracks, the pilot controls the movements that gives you some serious Gs. You start seeing the ground coming fast at you, but you still feel safe because it all happens so naturally.

Then, prepare for landing. Lift your feet up then gracefully start fast walking until you halt. Finally you will be so excited and ready to share this amazing experience with your friends. It’s unbelievable how a 30 minute flight passes by like a minute, I guess that’s what happens when you are having such a great time.

I have done skydiving, 40mt drop off swings, Hot air balloon but I must say Paragliding was my favourite. So while you are in Pokhara make sure you experience this great adventure.
