Missing out on life? Here's Why!

As 2018 started, I wanted to spare a few hours of my time, to share with you a message that I strong believe in.

I believe that everyone can live their dream life, including you. Maybe right now you are not in the best position you’d like to be. Maybe you do not have enough money and leave to travel as much as you want. And maybe you’ve been hoping, year after year that things will change.

Let me let you in on a little secret. Things will not change. You have to make them change.

And you change them by changing yourself. You need to realize that so far you haven’t been able to do the things you wanted to do, and you need to understand why.

It is your responsibly to direct your life

Our mind is like a garden. No matter what we do, something will grow. Now if we just let it be, and allow anything to grow, weeds will grow. However, if we plant seeds that we’d like to reap, and we care for our crops then, we are bound to be rewarded for our hard work.

This same concept applies to our brain. No matter what we do, we will have thoughts in our mind. If we do not choose the type of thoughts that we will have, we will have random, undirected thoughts, which in general are bound to be bad. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of our brain.

But we can do something about it…

If we plant seeds of imagination is our mind, and focus all our efforts onto a single idea about ourselves, then we would have directed our thoughts into a single vision for ourselves.

You will fail anyways...

so might as well fail when doing something you love

I am a firm believer of continual improvement. I feel that anything that doesn’t improve is bound to die. This continual improvement process has made it possible for all nature to evolve into what it is today. That said, since scenarios change, we must constantly adapt to the changes that are happening around us.

If we keep on doing what we did in the past, we are bound to fail in the future. Therefore, failure is not an option – we might as well fail whilst trying to accomplish something that we are proud of.

There are various areas in life where we can improve, whether it is financial problems, or relationships, or health.

Dare to Dream

So now, let’s take a small action toward attaining our goals. Make a list of goals for your life. set a timeline and make yourself responsible for achieving those goals.

Personal Development goals – how would you like to improve your physical body, your mental and social development? What are your spiritual goals, and emotionally., what would you like to experience, achieve, or master in your life?

  • What would you like to learn?

  • What are some character traits you’d like to develop?

  • Who do you want your friends to be?

  • Who do you want to be?

  • What could you do for your physical well-being? Train more? Eat better?

  • Would you like to conquer the fears? Skydiving? Public speaking?

Career / Business / Economic Goals – what level of financial abundance do you want to achieve? To what position do you want to rise?

  • Do you want to earn €30,000, €50,000, €100,000?

  • When do you want to retire?

  • How much investments do you need to have so you no longer have to work?

  • Do you need to balance your budget? Get a financial coach?

  • How much money do you want to be able to spend on travel and adventure?

  • What are your career goals? To have a promotion? To start your own business?

Toys / Adventure goals – if there were no limits economically, what are some of the things you would like to have, what are the things you’d love to do?

  • Would you like a nice farmhouse?

  • Would you like to trek Machu Picchu in Peru?

  • Would you like to summit the Thorong La Pass or Mount Everest in Nepal?

  • Would you scuba dive in Fiji?

  • Or perhaps would you meditate in a Buddhist monastery?

Contribution goals – how do you want to leave your mark in this world? What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind that makes a true difference in people’s lives? How could you contribute? Would you?

  • Help build a shelter for poor people in Kenya?

  • Adopt a child?

  • Volunteer at a poor children’s school in Ethiopia?

  • Read to the blind?

  • Visit someone lonely in prison or in hospital?

  • Help protect the ozone layer?

  • Give food to all who hunger?

Now the real fun beings… make some time, and allow 45 minutes or more for you to dream a little…

Step 1: Make a list of 10 goals for each of the 4 topics; personal, career, adventure, and contribution

Step 2: take a minute to give a time line to each one of your goals. If you are committed to accomplishing that goal in the next year, write a 1 next to it. If it’s 5 years, write 5, and so on.

Step 3: choose your top one-year goal in each of the 4 topics (personal, career, adventure, and contribution) and take 2 minutes to write a short paragraph about it explaining why you are absolutely committed to achieving this goals within the year.

Be sure to stack up as many reasons as you can for achieving this goal. Pick reasons that will really drive you that make you passionate and excited about the process.
